Ford Stamps a New ’65 Mustang Convertible

Posted in Mustang on November 18th, 2011 by admin

Check this out- In a Ford media release “classic car lover’s dream come true”, Ford is giving details of a reproduction first-generation Mustang convertible body shell to be built by Dynacorn International. These guys were contracted by Ford to make the bodies, and also produces shells for vintage Camaros, Firebirds, Chevelles, Challengers and Chevy trucks, as well as 1967-70 Mustangs.

You can now buy a brand-new old Mustang, and it comes with doors, trunk lid and all the sheet metal. Just $15,000 and it can be delivered to your door.

Choose a ’64.5, ’65 or ’66, depending on the trim. This body is made of virgin metal and is built using modern welding techniques. Apparently Dynacorn vice president says, the steel is of a better grade than that used in the original Ford-manufactured body.

Ford says all the parts needed to build a complete first-generation Mustang convertible, except for some minor body hardware, can be bought new from Ford-approved classic parts houses.

The classic mustang was at SEMA at the beginning of the month and got tons of reviews. You could actually build one now without ever owning an original.

Bow-Tie Birthday! 100 Years of American History

Posted in Chevrolet, General News on November 18th, 2011 by admin

Happy 100th Birthday Chevy!

Chevrolet Motor Co. was incorporated Nov. 3, 1911, and has now been a part of American History for 100 years!

The brand was named after Consulting Engineer Louis Chevrolet, who was not even an officer of the company.

Chevy has a lot of classic muscle cars, and even more classic stories about cars. From the 1969 Camaro, and 70′ Chevelle, to the Corvette stingray, Chevy runs deep.

Recently, Automobile Mag choose to highlight some events in Chevrolet’s history.  Here you go:

• 1911 — William C. “Billy” Durant founded Chevrolet; he had previously formed General Motors, but lost control. Later on, in a stock switch Chevrolet acquired GM.

• 1913 — The first Chevrolet model was formerly introduced as the Type C, better known as the “Classic Six.” Lighting was electric, which included a lamp to illuminate the speedometer.

• 1914 — The “bowtie” emblem appeared for the first time.

• 1918 — The Chevrolet truck made its debut.

• 1919 — The financial giant, GMAC, was created, which enabled consumers to buy Chevrolets “On Time.”

• 1927 — Chevrolet outsold Ford division for the first time.

• 1929 — The “Stove Bolt Six,” was the new engine. It later turned into the “Blue Flame Six.”

• 1932 — Chevrolet claimed it sold one of every four cars in America.

• 1935 — The Chevrolet Suburban first appeared. It’s now known as the longest running nameplate in automotive history.

• 1937 — Chevrolet featured an all-steel “Body by Fisher.”

• 1941 — During World War II, Chevrolet built trucks, armored cars, aircraft engines and artillery shells for the military.

• 1949 — The first post-war Chevrolets were produced with sales of more than one million.

• 1950 — The Bel Air “Hardtop Convertible” took a bow, along with a Powerglide transmission that was “fully automatic.”

• 1951 — The song, “See the USA in Your Chevrolet,” sung by Dinah Shore was an instant hit.

• 1953 — The first of the Corvettes gave Chevrolet a new, dynamic image.

• 1955 — The 2571 BelAir Nomad two-door wagon arrived, along with a “small block” V-8 engine.

• 1957 — The Corvette was upgraded with a fuel-injected V-6, which could reach 60 mph in 5.7 seconds.

• 1958 — The Impala, initially a two-door hardtop, sold more than one million cars, which is still a record for a single nameplate.

• 1961— The first “Super Sport” was a hit, the first of many SS models.

• 1962 — Chevy II/Nova was the feature, with four- or six-cylinder engines.

• 1963 — The Corvette Sting Ray was created by Zora Arkus-Duntov and designed by Larry Shinoda.

• 1965 — The first Chevrolet Caprice, which lasted three decades, came out.

• 1967 — The Camaro, a pony car designed to compete with Ford’s Mustang, was introduced.

• 1970 — Mid-sized Chevelle SS and Malibu came on the scene.

• 1973 — One of the greatest names in automotive annals, the Monte Carlo, was introduced.

• 1974 — “Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolet” received universal acclaim.

• 1976 — The Chevette, a bid for the small-car market, arrived: It was based on the Opel Kadett.

• 1980 — The Chevrolet Citation, the first front-drive Chevy, debuted.

• 1989 — The Geo nameplate appeared, three different small cars under the Geo banner.

• 1990 — Co-developed with Lotus, the Corvette ZR-1 was shown.

Much of Chevrolet’s success must be given to its long-time advertising agency, Campbell-Ewald, which placed its first ad for Chevrolet in 1919 and became the agency of record in 1922.

Listed above are two of Campbell-Ewald’s greatest hits, “See The USA …” and “Baseball, hotdogs.” Other themes were great, such as “Like a Rock.” New GM management ditched Campbell-Ewald last year.

The current tag line, “Chevy Runs Deep,” is open for debate.

1969 Camaro Voted Best Chevy EVER!

Posted in General News on October 9th, 2011 by admin

The voting campaign was part of Chevrolet’s centennial celebration with the US brand posting a survey on its website.

Chevrolet says that the 1969 model was the final year of the Camaro’s original design and it paced the Indianapolis 500 for the second time.

The vehicle has featured in numerous movies and, according to Chevrolet, is still considered one of the hottest looking rides of the classic muscle car era.

Lucky Owner! Est. $75k 1971 Chevelle almost ‘Chopped’

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A rare bust as Fresno’s “Help Eliminate Auto Theft” taskforce, H.E.A.T., discovered a chop shop in Fresno County just before a rare and expensive muscle car was stripped of its parts.

A 1971 Chevelle, estimated to be worth $75,000, was found in a garage full of car parts at Olive and Brawley.

The California Highway Patrol said the victim owns several muscle cars and was out of town when the car was stolen Wednesday morning.

550 HP Shelby for 2013?

Posted in General News on October 9th, 2011 by admin

Chevrolet announced that its new top of the line Camaro ZL1, based off the classic 1969 Chevy Camaro, would have a 580 hp supercharged V8, that bumped it to top of the American muscle car race. Ford felt the air as the shot flew across the bow Ford Mustang.

The Mustang Shelby GT500 is the leader in pony cars, with its 5.4-liter supercharged V8 with 550 hp. Word on the street is that the Mustang will be catching up with Chevy’s Muscle Car in the 2013 model Mustang, giving Chevy a run for their money.

MustangsDaily, a mustang blog, posted a recently negotiated labor agreement between Ford and the UAW. In one section the agreement talked about investments Ford’s Romeo Engine Plant, which included a line that said “The 5.4L Supercharged engine gets upgraded to a 5.8L.”

Nothing is stone, just an innocent declaration of fact. Considering the GT500 is the only vehicle Ford makes that has the engine, the insinuations are pretty straight forward.

Who

knows what kind of HP they are talking about here, but the classic Ford Mustang may soon have as much as 620 hp. Is Ford is building asuspensition system to match? Let’s hope so. Chevy reportedly been given the go ahead to add the ZL1 to classic Camaro, so we shall see.

Ford Breaks Out a Muscle Car Sedan – 300 Rival?

Ford’s Strategic Design Team has a new vision they call American Muscle. The hot rod sedan Ford calls the interceptor could be the new rival for Chrysler and the 300. While the Ford Mustang is a hot seller, Ford needs this look to compete in this class, but how much of a reality will this muscle car be?

We know this much, Ford wants an all-new rear-wheel drive sedan for America by 2012. This could be it, or a toned-down version. Will it be the demise of the 300?

EPA Bad for Classic Muscle Cars? -Approves %15 Ethanol

Posted in General News on August 19th, 2011 by admin

At the beginning of the year the EPA approved the use of E-15. Automakers are asking questions. Could this be a nasty blow to the Classic Muscle Car?  E-15 is bad for your muscle car say some in the industry. E-15 causes all kinds of damage to the engine and valve train in older model vehicles. Fortunately, there are aftermarket fuel kits are available to upgrade your classic.

Check out what the EPA’s Lisa Jackson says, “Recently completed testing and data analysis show that E15 does not harm emissions control equipment in newer cars and light trucks,” She said newer cars and trucks- but what about classic cars and trucks? If there is a mandate like proposed, then you could be looking at replacing the entire fuel system from the tank, to the carb. Furthermore, she is says that old cars as far back as 2006 would be ok.  Is a 2006 model mustang an old car in 2011?

She goes on to say, “Wherever sound science and the law support steps to allow more home-grown fuels in America’s vehicles, this administration takes those steps.”

Fortunately the classic car folks are not alone. Here is Gloria Bergquist, vice president of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (AMM) defending the automotive industry and small engine manufactures, “We’re basing our concerns on the cars that are on the road today, and on the corrosive effect that 15%-ethanol fuel could have on fuel pumps, fuel tanks, hoses and emissions parts.“ AMM is a trade group that includes the Detroit Three automakers and other manufacturers, including Toyo Small-engine mfg. These guys are also concerned about the effects on boat motors, chain saws and lawn mowers. Could this effect your 1966 Ford Mustang could it be  deemed a ‘Heavy Polluter?!’
